Welcoming the First Day of Fall

The first day of fall always feels like coming home to myself. The air shifts, the light softens, and suddenly the world feels cozier. This season has a way of slowing me down and pulling me inward, reminding me to pause and enjoy the comfort of the home I’ve worked so hard to create.

For me, fall has always been about staying in and soaking up the little details — the warm glow of candles, the soft texture of a blanket, the scent of something baking in the oven. The coziness of the season makes me want to linger at home and truly enjoy the spaces I’ve poured love into. Whether it’s layering pumpkins on the mantel, hanging a seasonal wreath on the porch, or even pouring apple cider into my favorite mug, these small rituals remind me why this season is so special.

Finding Comfort in Everyday Homes

You don’t need a sprawling farmhouse or a grand porch to celebrate fall in style. Even the simplest spaces, like my little porch, can become a cozy retreat with just a few touches: a plaid throw, a lantern or two, and maybe a bundle of mums from the market. It’s about creating a space that welcomes you home at the end of the day and makes you smile when you step outside in the morning.

Seasonal Touches I’m Loving This Year

  • Pumpkins in every size because one is never enough.

  • Warm textiles like knit throws and plaid pillows that instantly make a space feel snug.

  • Vintage finds (my favorite!) whether it’s an old crock filled with branches or a thrifted basket brimming with pinecones.

  • Happy Jacks from my shop cheerful little jack-o’-lanterns that bring just the right touch of vintage-inspired whimsy to a shelf, mantel, or tabletop. They make me smile every time I see their glowing grins.

A Gentle Reminder

Fall isn’t about perfection. It’s not about recreating a magazine spread. It’s about connection, to the season, to your home, and to the people you share it with. Light the candle, put on the cozy sweater, bake the pie, or simply open a window to let in that first crisp breeze.

Happy First Day of Fall, friends. May this season bring you warmth, comfort, and little sparks of joy.

Sincerely, Kari Anne
